SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage potential new clients in the medical device, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and life sciences communities through cold calls, facility visits, on site and web presentations, conference calls, trade shows, etc. in order to grow sales.
  • Facilitate introduction of potential new clients to our content experts by setting up opportunities to meet or consult on protocol development.
  • Attend local industry networking events and dinners as necessary.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Professional appearance essential, as well as ability to present and communicate verbally and in writing in an effective and persuasive manner.
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Sales professional with demonstrated experience in sales and/or business development required.
  • Experience in the life sciences, pharma or medical device industries a plus.
  • Must be proficient in electronic communication modalities such as Microsoft Office, email, PDA, etc.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

The purpose of this position is to be the focal point for the Microbial Fermentation Business in North America. This includes the marketing and development of the microbial fermentation business through established and new accounts by understanding and influencing the decision making process of the organizations, based on thorough intelligence, and strong personal relationships. Market growth must be in a manner consistent with profit and strategic objectives of the Microbial Fermentation Business.   The Sr Account Director will focus on strategies, senior contacts in Large, Mid-size and Emerging Pharma Houses as well as custom manufacturing in other biotech area’s such as pharma enzymes, food, nutrition, cosmetics.     The ideal candidate will reside in the SF Bay Area, however anyone residing in the Western US will be considered.     Job Context ·         To be closely involved in generating and adjusting the microbial fermentation business plan, thereby providing input for the relevant parts with a personal responsibility for the information and plans (e.g. long-term and annual sales targets) regarding his/her Key Accounts and geographic area in North America. ·         Full responsibility of implementation and execution of (appointed) tasks and actions according to the approved business plan/budget/ASR. ·         Effectuation of the project acquisition strategy, whenever necessary supported by relevant disciplines from within the Business Unit, e.g. customer visits, project discussions. ·         Develop activities to build and actively maintain a relationship with (potential) customers and a network among competitors and other players in the field of business to stay up-to-date regarding market developments. ·         To monitor all project-related matters (e.g. progress, complaint handling, result) in close co-operation with the appointed Project Manager, who is accountable to the NBD Manager for planning, implementation and progress of the project. ·         To generate proposals based upon the requirements of the customer and the input of the Senior Scientists, Project Managers, Control, Legal, taking into account the market and competition situation. ·         To negotiate proposals with the objective to obtain the optimal result for the Microbial fermentation business. ·         To agree on time-lines with customers in close cooperation with the internal organization. ·         To timely arrange written customer commitment for the services to be performed. ·         To negotiate contracts in co-operation with the legal department. ·         To undertake actions to have overdue invoices settled. ·         To be actively involved in the promotion and marketing of Microbial Fermentation Business, e.g. organization of workshops, attending conferences, representation at business exhibitions. ·         To actively promote and raise interest for the custom manufacturing services in the broader Biotech community and organize meetings addressing commercial, legal and technical questions customers might have regarding microbial custom manufacturing.   Key Areas of Accountability / Responsibility   ·  Decide on customer approach and acquisition strategy to (at minimum) reach the sales targets for North America. ·  Ensure alignment with DPP and DAI account managers (DPC/DPI/Biologics/DAI) in approaching accounts/regions. ·  Ensure and guard adequate exchange of information with and between customer and internal organization, in particular with the Project Managers, about all project-related matters. ·  Decide on actions to prevent project deviations and on customer approach in case they occur, specifically concerning financial aspects, quality matters and time lines. ·  Determine and negotiate commercial terms & conditions taking into account all relevant aspects, e.g. strategy, capacity, market situation, competition, risks, financials, IP and THE COMPANY compliance. ·  Ensure that agreed time-lines and other arrangements are acceptable and feasible both for the customer and the internal organization. ·  Provide legally solid commitment from the customer prior to the start of the activities. ·  Negotiate contracts, which provide optimal win-win situations for THE COMPANY Biologics and the client. ·  Signal, initiate and generate ways for collaborations with third parties with the aim of generating profitable and sustainable new business ·  Realization of both the appointed and personal tasks and responsibilities of the approved business plan. ·  Realization of the personal targets with priority on the sales result. ·  Primary responsibility for the relationship between THE COMPANY-B and his/her accounts in North America. ·  Proper acquisition, execution and termination of projects both in the perception of the customer and of THE COMPANY Biologics. ·  Timely and clear reporting on progress regarding the business plan and projects to the Business Unit.     Complexity of the job
