Description
This is an entry level Research Associate position in the Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy at LSUHSC in Shreveport. The candidate will be responsible for performing routine cell culture and conducting experiments in both cell culture and animal models of ischemic stroke. Duties will include isolating and maintaining endothelial cell cultures, performing survival surgeries in mice, and various functional, immunohistochemical, and biochemical, assays on in both cells and animal tissues. Experience with small animal surgical procedures and training in biochemistry and molecular biology is preferred. This position will interact professionally with support personnel, students, student workers, doctors, and other professionals. The ideal candidate will have working experience in small animal surgery, cell culture techniques, molecular biological/biochemical analyses, and data analysis, including statistics. Familiarity with mammalian cell culture, phase microscopy and sterile technique is preferred.
The successful applicant will be able to work independently with careful attention to detail. Exceptional organizational and time management skills are essential. Centrifuges, vacuum devices, ultraviolet and visible light measuring devices such as spectrophotometers and plate readers, balances, sterilization equipment (autoclaves), microscopes, incubators, cell culture hood, pipettes, computers, and extracellular flux bioanalyzer will be used to complete job duties.
This employee will work independently under general supervision by the principal investigator.
Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.
The work hours are generally Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM. However, there may be occasions where weekend and holiday work will be necessary. Overtime may also be required.
Lunch/breaks are dictated by workflow
Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur to assure that customer satisfaction is met at all times.

Qualifications
The applicant must meet the following:
- Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Sciences or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year experience in a chemical or biomedical research laboratory. Training in biochemistry and molecular biology with working knowledge of cell culture, molecular and biochemical analyses and prior experience with small animals (rats, mice).
