The Senior Research Associate I is responsible for leading select research planning and management, data collection and analysis, and writing and dissemination activities across multiple research projects. S/he is responsible for generating new research projects, developing research networks, and supporting Center strategizing for fundraising/development. They are also tasked with day-to-day project management, research training and mentorship, and developing content expertise. The Senior Research Associate I also contributes to fundraising and organizational development efforts.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Planning
- Lead the conceptualization and design of research projects
- Work with Center leadership and administration to ensure projects are properly staffed and other necessary supports are in place
Project Management
- Lead day-to-day activities of research projects
- Develop and adhere to task lists and timelines to guide the research
- Ensure proper research documentation (e.g., IRB materials, prospectus, protocols) is prepared, approved, and disseminated
- Lead all or portions of project meetings
- Contribute to project updates for internal and external purposes
Data Collection
- For quantitative research, identify and secure primary and secondary data sources, which may require the development and execution of scopes of work, data agreements, and other contracts
- For qualitative research, oversee data collection planning and coordination and lead on-site and remote data collection activities
Data Management & Analysis
- Oversee day-to-day data management and analysis activities
- Ensure data are logged, data dictionaries are prepared, and data are stored in accordance with appropriate security standards
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis and extrapolate research findings
- Develop implications and recommendations based on research findings
Writing
- Author and co-author publications, including research reports, briefs, journal articles, blogs, and op-eds
- Manage publication review processes that include reviews of storylines and drafts and may engage external reviewers
- Serve as a reviewer for papers from within and outside of the Institute
- Coordinate communications strategy for research publications with communications team and external partners
Dissemination & Public Relations
- Present research findings at meetings and conferences and to a variety of audiences (research, practitioner, and policymaker)
- Represent at conferences, speaking engagements, and meetings with external stakeholders
- Support Institute's communication team with regard to external inquiries
Supervision & Leadership
- Mentor and supervise graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research assistants
- Manage multi-person research teams
- Assess and confer with Center leadership about project staffing needs at regular intervals throughout the year
- Contribute to organizational development and strategy activities in coordination with Institute leadership
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in cultural studies, education, economics, sociology, statistics, or a related field and 4-7 years of experience conducting research projects in education or the social sciences
- Content knowledge of AI and the current sociopolitical issues facing AI and Education.
- Experience writing academic articles and research reports
- Knowledge of and experience with quantitative (e.g., econometric analysis) or qualitative research design and methods
Preferred Qualifications:
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills
- Track record of delivering high-quality work products under deadline
- Good judgment, reliability, and ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
Salary Range:
25,000-27,945
