Job Description:

General Objectives:

Reporting to the Assay Lab Supervisor, the Assay Technician works a modified 4 on and 5 off, 12-hour schedule - usually day shift. The Assay Tech performs duties in the Assay lab conducting analytical work on pit, pad, plant and bullion samples. Duties include, but not limited to: sample preparation, weighing samples, and performing gold analyses using AA spectrophotometer and gravimetric methods. Additional tasks may include preparation of analytical standards, safe disposal of waste materials and accurate/precise data and record keeping (Excel and Word).

Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Work in a safe and efficient manner. Maintain a safe attitude and looks out for others
  • Participate in good housekeeping in all areas of the Assay Lab and maintain a clean work environment in equipment and light vehicles
  • Actively participate in safety meetings and incident investigations
  • Perform daily work area inspections and Pre-op inspections of any light vehicle/equipment used
  • Perform sample preparation tasks including crushing, pulverizing (ring and puck and Rock Labs)
  • Perform lead acid digestions
  • Perform fire assays on pulp, carbon and bullion samples
  • Perform AA analyses, including calibration and standardization, on solution samples to determine gold content
  • Be able to work with LIMS software
  • Dispose of all residues, including lead and acidic wastes, in a safe and prescribed manner

Required Skills:

  • Ability to effectively report all incidents and accidents to supervisor
  • Can effectively report spills, mortalities, etc. to supervisor
  • Ability to work without creating chemical spill.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE including but not limited to respirators, footwear, high visibility clothing, and eye and hearing protection
  • Can work safely with chemicals including lead, cyanide, caustic and acids
  • Ability to work safely around mobile equipment
  • Can describe issues with work area to aid operations and direct maintenance work
  • Communicates with coworkers and supervisors in a professional and courteous manner
  • Must meet respirator standards and use respirators when required

Required Experience:

  • Provide quarterly blood samples for lead determination
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in English, using all standard forms of business communication
  • Must have good safety and attendance records
  • Must be a self-starter and can complete work with little or no direct supervision
  • Willing to work weekends as scheduled
  • Candidate is able to routinely lift 50 pounds
  • Valid Driver License
