Research Scientist opportunity in Anesthesiology & PeriOp Med - Res. The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field and four years of experience in experimental or scientific work. With a PhD, no experience is required. With a medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.

Research Activity

Independently plan, execute, and analyze research projects, utilizing specialized instrumentation and methodologies, including:
a. Protein affinity purification and mass spectrometry-based proteomics to identify ion channel-interacting proteins.
b. Protein purification and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) for structural determination.
c. Physiological and biochemical assays related to ion channels and calcium signaling pathways, using cellular, molecular, biochemical, and animal model techniques.

Supervise and plan experiments for technical personnel and students, helping them effectively manage their time.

Establish research objectives, critically evaluate experimental data, and refine methodologies to address scientific challenges effectively.

Identify, assess, and integrate emerging technologies to advance research goals and foster innovation.

Engage actively in career and scientific development, seeking guidance from the principal investigator (PI) and faculty members to enhance research and professional growth.

Record Keeping, Data Collection, and Presentation

Collect, record, analyze data, and interpret, present, and report research findings at internal meetings and external scientific conferences.

Communicates with faculty and staff within and outside the laboratory in scientific discussions, data presentation, and literature reviews.

Assist PI in preparing and writing manuscripts for publications and grant applications.

Research Safety & Compliance

Works on general laboratory routine functions including reagent preparation, equipment maintenance, minor repairs on small equipment, inventory bookkeeping, and supply ordering.

Handles, stores, and disposes of chemical hazardous materials and biohazardous materials in specified procedures to meet institutional safety guidelines.

Responsible for monitoring laboratory equipment and implementing safety procedures to include: laboratory safety, quarterly reports, waste management, and IACUC inspections.

EDUCATION

Required: Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Four years of experience in experimental or scientific work. No experience with a Ph.D. with a Medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.
