This is a Research Associate position in the Department of Molecular & Cellular Physiology at LSUHSC in Shreveport. The individual will be performing day-to-day operations of a core lab. Experience in histology and immunohistochemistry and/or PCR is preferred. Experience in data analysis is a plus. The candidate must be attentive to details, organized, and able to work independently and as a part of a team. Regular attendance is needed for the performance of this job, occasional attendance may be necessary outside normal working hours (overtime). Lunch and breaks are dictated by workflow. All tasks are based on the needs of the core facility and associated faculty members. The incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur to ensure customer satisfaction is met at all times.
Essential Position Functions & Duties
35% Performing histology, including processing and embedding of samples, use of microtome/cryostat, histological staining of sections, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, microscopy, and analysis of slides. This also requires understanding of the basic principles, and attention to detail in order to properly track all samples. Some training of personnel from other labs will be required.
35% Performing polymerase chain reaction for multiple faculty. This requires understanding of the basic principles, preparation of stock solutions and isolation of DNA, ability to troubleshoot, attention to detail in order to properly track all samples.
20% Strong organizational skills are necessary to track all jobs and billing, and establish and maintain a comprehensive database, generate monthly core use reports, manage equipment maintenance and training. In addition, coordination of sharing of resources will be required.
5% Determining quantity of supplies needed and keeping laboratory stocked with necessary supplies.
5% Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
The applicant must meet the following:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Biochemisty, Molecular Biology, Applied Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office program.
