Sr. Research Laboratory Technician
The University of Miami/UHealth department of Neurology- Neuro-endovascular Research Division has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Sr. Research Laboratory Technician to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Sr. Research Laboratory Technician (A) performs advanced technical activities related to laboratory research projects and clinical trials within the department. Specifically, the Sr. Research Laboratory Technician aids scientists by monitoring and recording study findings.
Core Responsibilities
Downloads, enters, and regulates data and maintains quality assurance.
Contributes to report writing and graphical presentation of data.
Monitors inventory of equipment and supplies and places orders in a timely fashion.
Maintains laboratory facilities and equipment in compliance with safety regulations and policies.
Prepares reports on project status and risk assessments.
Department Specific Functions
The labs primary research focus is to use pre-clinical in vitro and animal models to develop endovascular therapies, including but not limited to stem cell therapy, for stroke and vascular dementia. The hired will work on experimental execution of projects that align with the goals of the laboratory, under the guidance of PI/Research Faculty. This is a full-time position which will involve working in close collaboration with the PI/Research Faculty and other senior lab members for projects that focus on developing therapies for stroke and vascular cognitive impairment.
Perform small animal stroke surgeries independently (adequate training will be provided)
Aid in performing large animal stroke surgeries (adequate training will be provided)
Help develop other animal models in the lab
Perform stem cell administration surgeries
Work with collaborators
Perform molecular neurobiology experiments on small and large animals as well as human tissue
Perform in-vitro cell culture experiments
Be constantly willing to learn new scientific techniques and ideas
Demonstrate team working skills
Collect and Analyze data
Oversee lab inventory and ordering, lab management
Help PI with ensuring compliance
Maintain laboratory documentation and records
Help train students or junior members of the lab
Attend regional, national and international meetings as needed

Core Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. BS in biomedical science/pre-med/Neuroscience/biology/molecular biology/other relevant field preferred.
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required in a research lab.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience working in a stroke or vascular dementia lab, doing stroke surgeries (MCAO model), other vascular surgeries, molecular biology experiments (western blotting, RT-PCR, RNA-DNA isolation, immunofluorescence, histology, etc.), is preferred
Candidates with expertise in MCAO and other vascular large and small animal surgeries are encouraged to apply
Be able to execute experiments and communicate effectively with PI/faculty and other team members
Must be able to organize and manage multiple projects with high efficiency
Be willing to train other junior laboratory personnel as required
Be involved in lab management tasks
Be proficient with use of computers, Microsoft office, remote meeting tools, willing to learn analytical software/s used in the lab, as needed
Demonstrate excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills
Must have excellent organizational skills
Be an extremely good team player
