Quality Control Laboratory Technician
Job Description

The Quality Control Laboratory Technician will work in a satellite lab located above the manufacturing floor to conduct quality checks and testing on raw materials, in-process, and finished goods. This role involves a blend of laboratory and quality assurance duties, with the technician spending 60% of their time on the plant floor and 40% in the laboratory. Candidates should be comfortable working in a manufacturing setting and being on their feet.

Responsibilities

  • Perform multiple daily sample collections from the plant floor for laboratory testing.
  • Retrieve quality assurance and regulatory documentation from the plant floor.
  • Ensure plant personnel adhere to procedures such as GMP and PPE usage.
  • Communicate effectively with production personnel to address issues or potential issues.
  • Conduct formulation checks including salt, acid, and pH levels.
  • Perform titrations and mass-volume calculations.
  • Conduct sensory testing twice per shift.
  • Calibrate laboratory instruments.
  • Perform basic microbiological testing and solution preparation.
  • Utilize the SAP system and Microsoft applications for data entry.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in sciences such as biology or food science.
  • Experience in food manufacturing, preferably in quality roles.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with microbiological plating and analytical chemistry testing is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills for frequent interaction with production personnel.
  • Ability to think quickly and make fast decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive in completing tasks and taking on additional projects.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including potential overtime as needed.
Work Environment

The position requires flexibility to work 2nd shift (2 PM - 10:30 PM, M-F) and 3rd shift (10 PM - 6:30 AM, M-F), with training starting on the 2nd shift. The work environment is a mix of laboratory and plant operations, involving quality assurance in a fast-paced manufacturing setting with GMP/GLP standards. The manufacturing area has a strong odor due to the production of mayonnaise, while the laboratory is odor-free. The dress code includes long pants, steel-toed safety shoes, hair/beard nets, smocks, and no jewelry or painted nails. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
