AbbVie Biologics Analytical Research & Development (Biologics Analytical R&D) is a global analytical sciences organization responsible for all CMC analytical activities related to the development of AbbVie's pharmaceutical products. Our scope includes AbbVie's diverse pipeline of innovative therapeutic biologic medicines and spans from the selection of Discovery candidate molecules through the transition of analytical methods and testing to commercial labs to support product launch. The biologics characterization group develops state-of-the-art analytical techniques for in-depth characterization of therapeutic proteins and other novel biologic molecules using mass spectrometry and other advanced analytical techniques. We are looking for diverse candidates with strong scientific and leadership experience to join the AbbVie Analytical R&D team and can offer exciting and rewarding career opportunities for these candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and achieve discipline strategy in alignment with functional goals and key scientific objectives.
- Collaborates with experts integrating scientific objectives associated with development of new/improved products or technology.
- Advances scientific expertise within function. Proactively advises and shares knowledge and expert opinions with subordinates, peers, and senior management. Mentors and trains colleague and assesses current and emerging business challenges enabling functional goal achievement.
- Ensure quality and effectiveness of key results of major project plans through sound design, early risk assessments, and implementation of fallback strategies.
- Sources and identified emerging scientific trends from internal and external sources and assess relevance. Integrates trends into functional short-term objectives. Advances technology and direction within area of discipline.
- Applies imagination and innovation by creating, inventing, and implementing new or better approaches, alternatives and breakthrough ideas.
- Make significant contributions to project team and deliver results in a team-oriented setting and will work across scientific disciplines to drive programs through critical milestones.
- Generate new scientific proposals and lead those efforts. Anticipate and critically evaluate scientific or regulatory advances or competitive threats and respond with appropriate new strategies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Science related field with 16 years of related work; Master's Degree Science or PharmD with 14 years of related work; PhD in Science or related field with 8 years of related work experience.
- Deep understanding of protein characterization by mass spectrometry (e.g., peptide mapping, intact mass analysis).
- Practical experience and strong knowledge of protein HPLC (e.g., SEC, IEX, HIC), capillary electrophoresis, and other separation techniques as applied to protein analysis.
- Must possess a solid understanding of protein chemistry and biochemistry, particularly as related to biologics drug development. Experiences with the development of antibody drug conjugates (ADCs), mRNA and AAV are plus.
- Proven ability to innovate with a history of new or improved product release.
- Interacts well with diverse groups and maintains strong working relationship with internal and external collaborators.
