The Swine Applied Innovations Lab at Iowa State University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist I with expertise in swine nutrition, swine biomedical models, and translational research. The ideal candidate will support ongoing research into swine nutrition, management, and physiology using state-of-the-art methods and technologies. This is a hands-on research position focused on executing and managing research studies to bridge the gap between science and applications.
Key Responsibilities:Design, execute, and manage swine studies in areas such as nutrition, management, and physiology, under research and field settings.
Conduct comprehensive phenotyping of pigs, including gait analysis, respiratory assessments, metabolic profiling, and behavioral characterization.
Perform technical procedures such as blood collection, tissue sampling, necropsy, and intramuscular or intravenous injections.
Perform wet lab assays, including but not limited to proximate analysis, qPCR, ELISA, and histological evaluation.
Analyze research data using diverse statistical software tools (e.g. SAS and R).
Prepare datasets for peer-reviewed publication and grant submission.
Supervise, train, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in GLP-compliant laboratory and animal care techniques.
Maintain detailed protocols and coordinate approvals with IACUC, IRB, and IBC; develop and implement new SOPs to ensure compliance and safety.
Maintain laboratory infrastructure, manage supply chains, and coordinate hazardous material handling with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS).
Collaborate with academic researchers, industry partners, and interdisciplinary teams to support innovation in swine nutrition, management, and welfare.
Contribute to grant writing and external funding proposals.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
This is a term position with opportunity for renewal.
