We are seeking a Laboratory Technician . Under the general supervision of a faculty investigator, the successful candidate will be responsible for lab maintenance, working with cultured human and other cell lines and building upon substantial lab momentum to model human vascular disease at the lab bench. This will involve maintaining well-ordered infrastructure, performing image-based and protein biochemical analyses and tests on human or animal fluids and cultured cell lines.
Work requires basic use of scientific methods, procedures, and techniques gained through previous training and experience. Uses basic understanding of theory behind experiments and applies basic analytical and statistical skills to implement assigned projects, and to identify and troubleshoot situations needing special attention.
Follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform laboratory tests and/or experiments which may include: immunofluorescence imaging on live and fixed cell samples, qPCR, Western blot, histochemistry and other microscopy and protein biochemistry preparations and experiments. Works with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and other personnel to maintain laboratory organization and momentum. Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies including lab consumables, glassware, and stored cell lines in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt and assists with grant accounting.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor?s degree in biology, chemistry, or related field required.
- Some science coursework and/or training certificate from a technical institute.
- Experience in cell culture and light microscopy and excitement for scientific discovery.
