Research Associate - Neuroscience The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center - 3.9 Columbus, OH Job Details Full-time 23 hours ago Qualifications Laboratory experience Research Mid-level Bachelor's degree 1 year Associate's degree Communication skills Full Job Description The lab of Dr. Sabhya Rana, in the Department of Neuroscience, seeks a highly motivated Research Associate who will participate in the planning, design, execution, and management of research projects in the Rana Lab. Our lab studies neural circuits that control breathing and how respiratory function is impacted in disease and injury. We are also developing therapeutic strategies (non-invasive spinal stimulation, pharmacological targets) to improve respiratory motor function in spinal cord injury models. A key role of the Research Associate will be to manage daily operations of the laboratory, assist in the procurement of lab supplies and equipment. Research Associate will also be expected to monitor and enforce laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as local, state, and federal regulations, including proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials. The successful candidate is expected to have a basic background in biology and neuroscience, with the versatility and adaptability to learn and execute both basic and translational neuroscience and physiology techniques. They will perform experiments using in vivo rat models of spinal cord injury and conduct a critical analysis of relevant literature. The position will require providing intermittent animal care support after hours and on weekends. Some routing laboratory tasks encompass coordinating study calendar and relevant procedures, performing behavioral tasks, tissue histology, imaging, and quantification of neurophysiology data. Additionally, candidate will develop and implement new or revised research methodologies and techniques, maintain meticulous records, and analyze, interpret, and present data. The role also involves assisting in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentations at local and national conferences and workshops. Strong communication skills, the ability to coordinate laboratory activities, and manage periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment are essential. The candidate will assist in the preparation and submission of protocols for animal ethics committee review. The candidate will also oversee work assignments for other undergraduate researchers. The candidate will perform additional duties as assigned to support the routine working of the laboratory. Minimum Education Required Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; 3 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 1 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required.
