These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise,facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad arrayof other professional skills that support the National Park Service through theExperienced Services Program (ESP).

Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in a profession with primary duties involvedin the study, inventory, monitoring, restoration, and management of a broadrange of natural resources. Examples of program areas may include, but are notlimited to, vegetation, wildlife, fisheries, exotic and pest species, sensitivespecies, and associated ecological components such as air, water, and soil. ORMA/MS Degree in Science, Ecology, Biology, or related field with minimumadditional experience of 8 year(s) in Ecology, including Aquatics, Wildlife, andinteraction with Physical Sciences
Required: valid driver?s license; willingness to work/hike in uneventerrain, carry a day pack, and carry an overnight backpack up to 45 lbs; and,capacity to follow field/office protocols (and teach to others); demonstratedexperience with identification of amphibians, reptiles, fish, mammals, and birdsin SEKI; demonstrated experience to teach others on how to identify amphibians,reptiles, fish, mammals, and birds in SE region; willingness to drive personalvehicle to study areas.Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook,MS SharePointDuties:
Use existing specialized KSAs to provide aquatic, wildlife, and physicalsciences expertise to park staff as needed. Responsibilities primarily includeusing various techniques to conduct one or more of the following: 1) recoveryactions for several listed animal species; 2) critical habitat restoration; 3)surveying, monitoring, and researching high-priority animal species and physicalsciences projects; and 4) assisting with administration of high-priorityprojects being implemented and planned.
Ecological Knowledge: Apply knowledge of Southeast Region fauna and ecology,physical natural resources, and project implementation to provide experiencedsupport for high-priority needs in the aquatic, wildlife, and physical scienceprograms. 40%Habitat Restoration Knowledge: Apply knowledge of Southeast Region aquatichabitat restoration and aquatic food webs and local/regional experience toprovide skilled support for high-priority habitat restoration needs in theaquatic program. 40%Wildlife Knowledge: Use local/regional experience andintermediate-to-advanced identification techniques (keys, field guides, andother wildlife id resources) to identify amphibians, reptiles, fish, mammals,and birds when conducting surveys and recovery and restoration actions.Coordinate identification and/or other support with outside experts asneeded. 15%Leadership & Safety: Use leadership skills and experience to maintain goodcommunication with field crews, program managers and lead technicians, and ParkDispatch. Use appropriate tools (e.g., GPS, maps) to navigate safely eitheralone or with crew members. Follow NPS safety and communication protocols whenworking in the field. Communicate with NPS partner about safety concerns orincidents. 5%
Other:Required Certifications: On USFWS List of Authorized Individuals to handleT&E SpeciesHealth and Safety Considerations: This position may spend some time in thefield, specifically in locations with uneven terrain and surrounding hazardssuch as dead and dying trees, ticks, rattlesnakes, and temperature extremes.Staff in this position will be provided with safety protocols and informationrelated to these hazards and will be required to follow safety protocols similarto NPS staff. These protocols may require use of an NPS radio and communicationstracking by NPS dispatch. Staff will also be encouraged to practice operationalleadership principals, which encourage staff to proactively identify potentialrisks and appropriate mitigations and empower staff to choose not to complete atask when risks cannot be safely mitigated.Required Safety Gear: There may be situations when personal protectiveequipment is necessary for the completion of a task, such as wearing a hard hatin areas with a high number of hazard trees. If and when PPE is identified, itwill be provided to the staff by the NPS for their use.Physical requirements: Job is primarily sedentary and performed in an officeenvironment. Some field visits may involve brief exposure to arduous climaticconditions (e.g. temps >90 degrees) and the need for sufficient mobility tonavigate uneven terrain. .
