Major/Essential Functions

  • Develops and maintains rigorous, externally-funded research programs
  • Conducts and leads independent and collaborative research using advanced human brain imaging techniques, including MRI and fMRI, to investigate neurological, psychiatric, and metabolic conditions.
  • Leads the design and conduct of research studies, including development and oversight of IRB protocols, participant recruitment, data acquisition and analysis, and dissemination of findings through peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations
  • Provides faculty expertise in clinical translation by advancing fMRI-based pre-surgical functional mapping for epilepsy and brain tumor cases and leading interdisciplinary research collaborations
  • Engages in limited teaching and mentorship activities (approximately 10% effort), supporting medical students, residents, and other trainees as incidental to the primary research mission
  • Contributes to the strategic planning of the department's research mission by developing goals, objectives, and long-range plans for prospective radiology research initiatives
  • Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures
  • Serves the academic community through participation in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties
  • Contributes to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Track record of success in extramural grant funding
  • Record of presenting at national scientific meetings
  • Experience mentoring or supervising students or research trainees
  • Experience in clinical or translational neuroimaging research
  • Research focus in neurological, psychiatric, or metabolic disorders (e.g., stroke, obesity, Alzheimer's disease, bipolar disorder)
  • Experience with multidisciplinary or multi-institutional research collaborations
  • Background in EEG, TMS, or multimodal neuroimaging techniques
  • Demonstrated experience in functional imaging techniques, including acquisition, processing, and interpretation of fMRI, PPET, or SPECT data
  • Emerging or established regional or national reputation for the rank of associate professor or higher

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in the field of biomedical sciences, with a thesis focused on brain biology
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral experience in neurosciences or related field
  • Experience in teaching graduate students and/or medical students
  • Record of accomplishment in basic or translational neuroscience research
  • Experience in Brain imaging acquisition and analysis
  • Experience in MRI pre-surgical planning or functional brain mapping
  • A publication record in peer-reviewed journals with neuroscience-related content, particularly in human brain imaging
