Hiring Unit: Department of Biology ( Professor Rowan Barrett )

Position Summary:

• Assists in improving the efficiency of existing data processing pipelines by following documented procedures and testing code.
• Assists in the analysis and interpretation of data.
• Reads scientific journal articles relevant to the research project (e.g., methods for eDNA metabarcoding analysis, functional diversity, and Tropical Eastern Pacific oceanography). This duty is intended to provide the student with a deeper understanding of the broader research context.
• Follow s established protocols to inspect and organize environmental datasets collected from field instruments (HOBO loggers, YSI).
• Writ es and run s code in Python, R, and ArcGIS following procedures provided by the lab to produce spatial visualizations of eDNA and environmental data.
• Assist s in compiling and formatting a fish functional trait database by gathering trait information from existing published sources and entering it according to a standardized template.

Education/Experience:

• Experience with R and ArcGIS.
• Background in ecology.

Location: This position is located in Montreal, Quebec and the work for this position is expected to be performed in Quebec.

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) qualifier on a scale of 0-4.
