Your Opportunity

Stantec's Colorado team is currently seeking an experienced Biologist for our Environmental Services Group based out of either Denver or Fort Collins, Colorado. The successful candidate will work in a team environment and will be responsible for field team leadership and managing tasks related to natural resource surveys (e.g., wildlife surveys, habitat evaluations). Specifically, this role will involve leading the development of technical wildlife and botanical documents, coordinating and/or leading wildlife, habitat, and/or botany field surveys, and assisting with environmental permitting for a variety of clients. The right candidate will be focused on and have a technical background in wildlife biology and/or botany.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Planning, overseeing, and/or conducting wildlife and plant field survey techniques to inventory and monitor for special status species for a variety of different project types including renewable energy, energy transmission and generation, mining, transportation, and private development.
  • Leading the preparation and review of technical documents, such as baseline survey reports for natural resource studies (e.g., wildlife, vegetation, wetlands) and/or sections of NEPA documents.
  • Assist in the development of proposals (scope and/or budgets) for natural resource tasks as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state and occasionally across the Mountain West to conduct surveys. This role will require travel overnight for multiple nights, approximately up to 60 - 80% of the time (candidate dependent).
QUALIFICATIONS

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience working with wildlife, plants, and habitats, in the Colorado and the Mountain West.
  • Past experience working as a consultant in the natural resources field is preferred.
  • Desire to travel and conduct a variety of wildlife and habitat surveys.
  • Experience with lead authorship of technical documents (e.g., species-specific habitat assessments, Eagle Conservation Plans, Habitat Conservation Plans, Natural Resource Management Strategies, Environmental Assessments) preferred.
  • Ability to validate and accurately analyze information and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to manage risks and safety appropriately, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Effectiveness in resource planning and results delivery.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance workloads to achieve goals while keeping up with a highly mobile and changing environment.
  • Eager to learn and be part of a local team of resource specialists supporting clients in renewables, transmission, mining, and other industries.
  • Good driving record and valid drivers license required.

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science Degree with 3-10 years of relevant experience.

Experience in the field of natural resources consulting is preferred but not required.

Experience working with wildlife, plants, and habitats in the field is required.

This position will be in a hybrid mix consisting of a typical office environment or a flexible work environment (partial home, partial office) and extensive field-based work. This position requires overnight travel. The right candidate will serve as a biological field lead, working as an individual and in a team environment.

Our Environmental Services team generally works remotely and meets frequently; however, an office desk is available if preferred. Because of this, the successful candidate will be expected to reside within a reasonable commuting distance to one of our offices.
