The Department of Ophthalmology at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Research Assistant.
About the Opportunity
Responsible for supporting the clinical research faculty in conducting clinical research. Duties and functions include but are not limited to administrative tasks (such as scheduling meetings, developing and maintaining databases, etc.), liaison tasks (such as with institutional review board, co-investigators, etc.), and direct clinical research activities (to include both patient care and non-patient care tasks). Will be expected to assume responsibility for ongoing management of multiple ongoing and planned clinical studies. Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Do
- Attend regular clinical research meetings, generate task lists and action plans.
- Maintain a registry of ongoing clinical research studies (status, delegation of responsibilities logs, and timelines, etc.).
- Effectively communicate with internal and external collaborators with a high degree of integrity and confidentiality and in a professional manner at all times.
- Schedule and coordinate phone, video, and physical conferences among research staff.
- Interact with clinical research coordinator team and institutional review board to facilitate research oversight.
- Operate and maintain standard office equipment.
- Create and maintain data files using Excel, REDCap, and other data management software.
- Assist in preparation of reports, perform data searches and information gathering as needed.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
- Effectively organize and prioritize tasks to complete them in a professional and timely manner.
- Conduct reviews of medical records to extract data for retrospective analyses or to determine eligibility for future studies.
- May be involved with data collection from research subjects, including both historical information and performance of noninvasive tests (upon completion of training).
- Conduct ongoing audit and quality control of structural and functional data collected by site investigators in the ongoing NIH-funded COAST trial (involves ensuring timely performance of required testing, assessing quality metrics, ensuring concordance between test results and data entry, timely retesting as indicated, etc.).
Pay Grade: 15
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of one (1) year of administrative research support in a health care environment.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills: writing and verbal.
- Must be detail oriented and organized
- Basic computer knowledge and prior experience with all the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Internet proficiency and ability to gather data and prepare reports.
- Ability to prioritize is a must.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Be present in a professional and positive manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree preferred.
