Technology Division Lab Supervisor
Position Description
The Technology Lab Supervisor supports faculty in the setup and operation of Physics, Engineering, and Robotics classrooms and research laboratories to ensure optimal functionality. This role is responsible for maintaining compliance with safety protocols, procuring and managing inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment. And performing routine maintenance and repairs on equipment.
Alignment with Theological Positions
The person who fills this position must be someone who personally agrees with Biola's Articles of Faith and Statement of Biblical Principles and who is supportive of the positions taken by Biola as contained in its Eschatology Teaching Position. As such, this person may not speak against or act in a manner inconsistent with these positions during the course of their employment at Biola.

Bachelor's Degree required in a related science field.
Work Requirements
Non-exempt (02), Full time, 30 hours/week, 10 months/year
Essential Duties
Supervisory
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student laboratory workers in the Physics, Engineering, and Robotics programs
Supervise laboratory work of student personnel in the Physics, Engineering, and Robotics stockroom. Organize and monitor supply and equipment inventory.
Maintain a high level of order and cleanliness in the stockrooms and classroom laboratories.
Supervise the setup of Physics, Engineering, and Robotics teaching labs
2. Safety Compliance
Work together with faculty to ensure students wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as appropriate to the task.
Ensure that student workers and faculty are receiving the appropriate after-hire and yearly safety training.
Ensure equipment is operational and stored safely
Train and direct the proper functioning of all lab safety equipment, including safety showers and eyewash stations
3. Equipment
Maintain, troubleshoot, and if possible, repair department laboratory equipment; photoelectric effect, Geiger counters, Pasco carts, 3D printers, 2D Collision apparatus, Digital Multimeter, etc.
Schedule regular maintenance on equipment with service agreements
Work with IT for lab computers' software installation
Recycle old computers and electronics
Maintain lab laptop and equipment inventory
Maintain student laptop loan inventory
Write Standard Operating Procedures for lab duties and equipment operation
4. Facilitate Class and Research Laboratory Operations
Ensure that laboratory supplies are set up for weekly laboratory exercises
Ensure that laboratories are cleaned up at the end of the week
Work with faculty to prepare supplies for faculty-student research projects
Connect with Director of Lab Ops for lab facility repairs
5. Purchasing
Process program lab, research, and club orders from online ordering platform
Track/Deliver lab supplies and equipment orders
Update purchasing system with arrived orders
Notify faculty of arrived orders
Enter new equipment into Equipment Inventory List
Supervise student workers with ordering-related tasks mentioned above
6. Departmental Support
Oversee lab computers and laptops and connect with IT for support as needed
Complete special projects as needed, as directed by the Director of Lab Operations and Program Chairs
Serve as a member of the Program's support staff team by attending meetings as needed and providing general program support
Serve as a member of the Health, Safety, and Operations Committee
Assist with internship program as needed
Assist Science Division Lab Supervisor as needed
Meet with the Director of Lab Operations weekly
Meet with Program Chairs regularly
Required Skills/Qualifications
Hard Skills
Should possess strong organizational skills and good time management ability, with a strong service orientation
Good computer skills, including proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Google Docs
Basic mechanical aptitude and an ability to creatively troubleshoot problems as they arise
Soft Skills
The ability to relate well to and communicate with faculty, students, and co-workers
Must be able to take initiative to help facilitate faculty and student lab needs
Dependable, hospitable, kind, and honest
Has the ability to receive and implement suggestions from supervisors and work well with others
Hiring Range: $21.96 - 24.70 per hour
