Job Summary and Qualifications Job Summary: The Cytotechnologist is responsible for the preparation, staining, and microscopic evaluation of cellular samples to detect cancer, hormonal abnormalities, and other pathological conditions. This role involves maintaining quality assurance standards, assisting in sample collection, and providing clinical data to pathologists for accurate diagnosis and reporting. The Cytotechnologist also contributes to a safe and cost-effective laboratory environment while maintaining a positive customer-oriented demeanor. What you will do in this role: Prepare and analyze cytological specimens to detect abnormalities. Maintain laboratory quality assurance and regulatory compliance. Assist in the collection of cell samples and provide data to pathologists. Promote a safe, cost-effective, and customer-focused environment. Prepare and store all specimens and necessary documentation. Prepare stains and slides for reading by Cytotechnologist or review by pathologist. Stain, mount, and study cells of the human body to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities, and other pathological conditions, following established standards of practices. Prepare microscopic slides from specimens of blood, scrappings, or other bodily exudates, and fixes and stains slides to preserve specimen and enhance visibility of cells under microscope. Examine specimens to detect abnormal hormone conditions. Examine cell samples to detect abnormalities in the color, shape, or size of cellular components and patterns. Evaluate cells for the presence of cancer, precancerous changes of infections. Prepare and analyze samples, such as Papanicolaou (PAP) smear body fluids and find needle aspirations (FNAs), to detect abnormal conditions. Provide clinical data or microscopic findings to assist pathologists in the preparation of pathology reports. Assist pathologists or other physicians to collect cell samples such as by find needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies. Maintain Quality Assurance in the laboratory including the maintenance of the system in accordance with the requirements of the College of The American Pathologists and preparation for site visits. Prepare slides and reports in a timely fashion, ensuring Q.C. are met. Other duties as assigned.
