Research Compliance Specialist II Essential Duties & Responsibilities Ensures research activities comply with RIT policies and procedures, federal regulations, and state and local laws relative to the conduct of human research studies Provides guidance regarding the interpretation of regulations, laws, and policies to the organization's internal review boards (IRB), researchers, staff, and administrators Reviews proposals and assists in the development of RIT human research protection policies and procedures Coordinates human research activities across the various offices and staff that have roles in protecting research participants Ensures that human research protection training is available and completed by investigators, key study personnel, and all staff who participate in the human subject research Maintains current knowledge of human research protection guidance and regulations as they evolve. Monitors federal regulatory websites and other research-related resources. Communicates pertinent information to staff in a timely manner Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations that govern research compliance and safety standards Knowledge of compliance requirements related to grant funding or sponsored research projects Skill in risk assessment and mitigation in the management of research compliance strategies Skill in effective communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders regarding complex or technical topics Skill in technical, legal, and contractual writing Ability to administer grants and contracts Ability to establish and maintain relationships with state and federal regulatory agencies Minimum Education & Experience Master's degree in related field 7 years of relevant experience Job Level Overview Specialized Contributor Level 2 - A fully functional role requiring established knowledge of the profession or field of work. Responsible for completing substantive assignments and projects. Problems are varied and non-routine, and resolution requires exercising judgment, analysis, advisement, creativity, and understanding broader sets of issues. May provide assistance to entry level staff. Additional Details As our Research Compliance Specialist II in Sponsored Research Services, you will be responsible for: Overseeing the Conflict-of-Interest process for sponsored researchers including review of all project COIs, implementing of federal sponsor and RIT rules, drafting of management plans or addressing conflict issues associated with individuals conducting externally sponsored research. Conduct export control compliance reviews on all sponsored projects, OFAC and banned party screening, project reviews and determinations, and creation of TCPs when necessary Learning and using research databases and compliance software to enter, track, and report data on completed reviews. Assisting on other pre and post award non-financial compliance issues involving NSF, NIH, DOE, NASA, and DOD. Conduct other non-financial matters including reviewing and drafting NDAs, data use agreements, and material transfer agreements related to sponsored projects.
