Job Description

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the development and testing of flavors, extracts, and blends for food and beverage applications. In this role, you perform analytical testing, prepare and evaluate samples, and ensure that all laboratory activities meet strict quality, safety, and regulatory standards. You work closely with a small, growing team in a family-owned environment, contributing to both routine operations and continuous improvement of laboratory processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products, including titrations and other laboratory analyses.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Use laboratory notebooks to compound formulas and create sample products for internal evaluation and customer review.
  • Prepare samples of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products for customers, ensuring accuracy, proper labeling, and timely delivery.
  • Conduct raw material testing to verify quality, compliance, and suitability for production.
  • Keep accurate production and laboratory records, including test results, formulations, and batch documentation.
  • Prepare, test, and maintain product retains to support quality control, traceability, and future reference.
  • Follow good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and good laboratory practices (GLPs) in all daily activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures, including proper handling of chemicals and laboratory materials.
  • Create and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and product specifications, ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Perform data entry and documentation in PC-based systems, maintaining accuracy and organization.
  • Collaborate with team members and support quality assurance and quality control processes as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations and company growth.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in the food and beverage industry preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical chemistry techniques, including titration.
  • Knowledge of raw material testing, quality assurance, and quality control processes.
  • Familiarity with GMP and CGMP requirements in a laboratory or production environment.
  • Experience working under GLP (Good Laboratory Practices).
  • Experience with HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) and GC (Gas Chromatography).
  • Ability to perform sampling and testing procedures accurately and consistently.
  • Strong math skills to support analytical calculations and data interpretation.
  • Strong knowledge of PC software and data entry, including accurate and efficient recordkeeping.
  • Efficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, efficient, accurate, and organized approach to work.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to maintain multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team worker.
  • Color vision with the ability to detect color differences, required for daily comparison of product color.
  • Ability to work without limitations and restrictions in a laboratory environment with exposure to odors and chemicals.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in chemistry, food science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Experience working with laboratory equipment calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with food science applications, especially flavors, extracts, and blends.
  • Experience in quality assurance and quality control within a laboratory or production setting.
  • Comfort working with data systems and documentation for SDS and specifications.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective while working under pressure and managing multiple tasks.
  • Strong organizational habits that support accurate documentation and sample management.
  • Interest in contributing to a small, growing company and working in a close-knit team environment.

Work Environment

You work in a laboratory setting within a small, family-owned company experiencing growth. The role involves regular exposure to strong odors and chemicals associated with flavors, extracts, and blends, and requires adherence to strict safety and handling procedures. You use a variety of laboratory instruments and equipment, including calibrated analytical tools such as HPLC and GC systems, and follow GMP and GLP standards throughout daily operations. The environment emphasizes teamwork, accuracy, and organization, with a focus on quality and continuous improvement in a close-knit, collaborative atmosphere.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belcamp, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
