Position Description:

The Research Technician II position in the Department of Surgery will be responsible for performing important translational laboratory work for trauma surgery and microbiology/immunology related research. The position will serve as the chief laboratory technician for the lab and will be heavily involved in exciting experiments focused on microbiota-based therapies and interactions between commensal bacteria and the host immune system during surgical stress, critical illness, and sepsis. It will involve a combination of small animal (mouse) work and in vitro work (e.g. cell culture, flow cytometry, sample preparation for spatial analysis and microbiome analysis) as well as standard organizational tasks critical to lab function. The position will work directly with and report directly to the lab principal investigator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform animal management tasks (e.g. mouse colony maintenance, breeding activities, animal euthanasia, mouse genotyping, organ procurement for analysis).

  • Perform various in vitro tasks and assays (e.g. cell culture based, anaerobic chamber use, flow cytometry, sample preparation for spatial analysis and microbiome analysis) from cell culture, mouse tissue, and human (patient) tissue.

  • Collect, organize and analyze data.

  • Coordinate and schedule research activities.

  • Organize and prepare queries upon request.

  • Prepare and ship samples and corresponding data to researchers upon request according to IATA and University of Louisville IRB guidelines.

  • Keep inventory and order necessary reagents and lab supplies.

  • Other duties as assigned

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • More than five (5) years of laboratory experience.

  • Prior experience with immunology and/or microbiology

  • Training in basic mouse husbandry, and laboratory microbiology/immunology assays.

Target Compensation Maximum:

$70,623.00

Target Compensation Minimum:

$47,048.00

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
