BIOLOGIST SUPERVISOR MONROE

Biologist Supervisor-Monroe/Habitat Stewardship/WMAs

This position is a Wildlife and Fisheries Biologist Supervisor position that receives direct supervision from a Biologist Manager based in the Monroe field office. The incumbent of this position will oversee and ensure that activities on Wildlife Management Areas are enacted and completed. This position will supervise Biologists and Technicians working on assigned WMAs.

A bachelors degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus four years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science; OR A non-thesis master's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus three years of the required specialized experience; OR A master's degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus two years of the required specialized experience. JOB DUTIES

Duties may include some or all of the following:

  • Collects, compiles, analyzes, and utilizes data for management activities and setting season dates and bag limits
  • Conducts and oversees trapping and banding operations for dove, turkey, waterfowl, and other wildlife
  • Collects biological samples for wildlife disease monitoring activities
  • Works with landowners, other state agencies, federal agencies, and non-governmental organizations
  • Oversees and participates in necessary construction and maintenance activities on Department buildings, grounds, roads, levees, equipment, camping areas, and water control structures
  • Participates in lethal and nonlethal collection and sampling of wildlife species for management, research, and nuisance response/control. Performs any duties necessary for the agency to accomplish its mission

POSITION- SPECIFIC DETAILS:

Physical demands: Moderate to strenuous physical exertion is required for such activities as climbing, lifting objects over 50 pounds, crouching, or crawling in restricted areas or in inclement weather. Weekend work, overnight stay, and early morning departure are required, as well as day and night work in boats and airboats.

Location: This position will be domiciled in Ouachita Parish.

Appointment Type: Job appointment, probational appointment, promotional, or detail to special duty.

If filled as a job appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available. Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected.
