Position Summary:
ultrafocused - Work together to fearlessly uncover new possibilities
The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr.MSL) will provide medical information through scientific exchange in a fair-balanced manner and provide clinical/scientific support to the company, as well as help to integrate the efforts of the Medical Affairs Department with R&D/Clinical Affairs/ Scientific Affairs and with other internal teams to ensure effective selection and execution of Evidence Generation. The incumbent identify influential senior clinicians on the national and regional level.

Responsibilities:
Scientific Engagement:
- Identify Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and establish and maintain scientific relationships with KOLs in academic centers
- Act as primary liaison to investigators interested in developing and performing Evidence Generation
- SMSL engages with KOLs more strategically, contributing to the development of engagement plans, and aligning interactions with broader organizational objectives.
Strategic Insight Generation:
- Sr.MSL supports the analysis and synthesis of insights, contributing to "decision-grade" insights: defined by relevance, depth, clarity, and alignment with strategic program needs.
Therapeutic Area Expertise:
- SMSL possess a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the therapeutic area, the disease, as well as our clinical programs and competitors. They apply this expertise to contribute to strategic planning, identify and address gaps in knowledge, and support the development of medical strategies and educational materials.
- Provide clinical presentations and medical information in response to unsolicited questions (as appropriate) at academic, community and healthcare provider settings.
- Communicate complex scientific information to a variety of audiences, including KOLs, healthcare professionals, and internal stakeholders
Scientific Strategy Execution:
- SMSL executes assigned scientific activities and adapts plans.
- SMSL, in addition, leads to the implementation of scientific initiatives/tactics and adapting plans based on insights gathered from the field and needs less direct supervision.
- Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with country-level plans
Clinical Development Support:
- Collaborate with the Clinical Operations organization to enhance patient enrolment in company-sponsored clinical trials by identifying appropriate clinical trial sites and interacting with investigators in ongoing studies
Scientific Communications:
- SMSL supports the development and/or adaptation of scientific content tailored to audiences. They ensure that all communications align with strategic objectives and comply with regulatory standards.
- Facilitates the collection and dissemination of scientific data, including real-world evidence and clinical trial results.
- Provide timely medical insights/information on emerging clinical/scientific topics and opportunities to internal stakeholders.
- Provide disease state presentations to key stakeholders.
Congress & Advisory Support:
- SMSL contributes to the planning and execution of congress activities and advisory boards.
Mentorship:
- With accumulated experience and expertise, SMSL may take on the responsibility of mentoring junior MSLs. They provide guidance on best practices, share insights from their experiences, and support the professional development of their mentees
- Seek out opportunities to support the MSL value proposition, achieve results and set an example for others to follow by consistently demonstrating Ultragenyx cultural attributes and core competencies
Requirements:
- Advanced degree in clinical specialty (MD, PhD, PharmD) and 2+ years of MSL experience strongly preferred.
- Strong rare disease experience required
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills required
- Fluent in Japan. Intermediate level English language skills to allow efficient scientific reading in the disease area and to communicate internally
- Proven experience effectively presenting clinical/scientific information required
- Expert understanding of the local health care delivery system and its impact on patient care and regional medical care
- Ability to relate and work with a wide range of people to achieve results
- Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule
- Ability to work in a cross-functional manner
- Ability to make decisions which have a significant impact on the department's credibility, operations, and services
- Ability to create materials such as reports, presentations for inside and outside the organization, and present/speak to groups
- Time and territory management skills required
- Approximately 30% of travel is required; overnight travel is required as needed
