Job Summary
The Staff Research Associate engages in extensive in vitro and in vivo studies of next generation T cell therapies for solid tumors. These studies will include molecular biology (cloning), gene-editing and viral and non-viral transduction of T cells, cell culture, engineered T cell activity (CAR T, TCR T etc) assays (cytotoxicity, proliferation, cell phenotype assessment via flow), in vivo assessment of cell therapies in xenograft and syngeneic settings and general lab support to maintain critical reagents. In vivo work will include tail vein injections of engineered T cells and subcutaneous or intraperitoneal injections of tumor cells into NSG mice or immuncompetent mice (syngeneic mouse tumor models). For all studies, tumor growth will be assessed via bioluminescence or caliper. T cells and tumor cells will also be collected from peripheral blood, tissue, and tumor samples to analyze cell numbers and phenotyping will be performed via flow cytometry and next-generation sequencing.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $28.04 - $45.09 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description
The Department of Microbiology & Immunology is a basic science department within the School of Medicine (SOM). We perform scientific research and training. ROYBAL LAB / MICROBIOLOGY & IMMUNOLOGY In the Roybal Lab, we harness the tools of synthetic and chemical biology to enhance the therapeutic potential of engineered immune cells. We take a comprehensive approach to cellular engineering by developing new synthetic receptors, signal transduction cascades, and cellular response programs to enhance the safety and effectiveness of adoptive cell therapies.
Required Qualifications
BA/BS in a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience following degree completion, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Demonstrated ability to work in a team
Communication and organizational skills
Excellent demonstrated record of attendance and punctuality
Accuracy and attention to details
Independence and initiative in problem solving
Ability to adhere to all campus safety policies
Ability to multi task effectively
Analytical skills
Experience with cell culture, molecular and biochemistry assays including cloning, PCR, flow cytometry, ELISA, incucyte. In vivo mouse work including tumor measurements and subcutaneous injections.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with in vivo mouse work including tail veil, retro-orbital and intraperitoneal injections
