**About the Department**

The Department of Microbiology faculty researches a vast array of

bacteria and viruses. We are a community of faculty, postdoctoral

scholars, students, and staff committed to research and education in the

field of microbiology. Our faculty conduct interdisciplinary research

that advances the study of microbes and microbial diseases. Basic

research in Microbiology underwrites out effort for eradication of

important pathogens, prevention of human diseases, development of gene

therapies and the evolution of new strategies for personalized medicine.

We are also committed to training the next generation of scientists.

This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant

funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the

contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of

these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.

**Job Summary**

This job participates in scientific research projects. The employees are

responsible for developing and executing projects, analyzing data,

writing papers, and reports, presenting research, and training junior

staff and students. They are also responsible for working with animals.

**Responsibilities**

- Basic microbiology: cloning, genetic manipulations, data analysis,

statistical analysis, animal infections, ELISA assays, cell culture

and primary cell growth, handling of human blood, cell sorting,

fluorescent microscopy, biochemistry, and protein purification.

Also, working in a BSL3.

- Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis.

Contributes to facilitating and promoting a research project by

providing scientific or intellectual information.

- Reviews laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage

complex data sets for research.

- Leads the contributions to scientific writing and publications,

including protocols and grants.

- Trains new laboratory personnel.

- Performs other related work as needed.

**Minimum Qualifications**

**Education:**

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

**Work Experience:**

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5

years of work experience in a related job discipline.
