TheTranslational Neuroimmunology Lab directed by Dr. Sarah Lutz in the Departmentof Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seekinghighly energetic and organized applicants for a full-time Visiting Research Scientistposition. This role will involve managing a large transgenic mouse colony andconducting neuro-behavioral and neuro-immunological analysis. Our researchfocus is understanding how blood-brain barrier dysfunction contributes to neuroimmunologicaldiseases in preclinical animal models relevant to COVID-19/Long COVID, vasculardementia, and multiple sclerosis. Experimental procedures include behavioraltests, histology, microscopy, biochemical assays, and cell culture models. Expertiseis required with either flow cytometry or with quantitative immunofluorescentmicroscopy.

Duties and Responsibilities
Writing manuscriptsand giving presentations of the data.
Writing competitivegrant applications with the assistance of the PI.
Working with andtraining graduate and undergraduate students and the lab.
Managea large mouse colony including colony maintenance and genotyping.
Maintaindetailed colony spread sheets.
Conductbehavioral analysis and maintain equipment.
Workas part of a team to generate mice for projects on defined schedules.
Injectmice with different treatments.
Ensurethat laboratory procedures comply with all safety requirements.
Performmouse surgery.
Performimmunohistochemical and biochemical analysis.

Qualifications: Experiencein colony maintenance, genotyping and mouse treatment is essential. Expertise is required with either flowcytometry or with quantitative immunofluorescent microscopy. Experience inmouse behavior and tissue collection (perfusions, brain dissection) is preferred.
Enthusiasm forlearning and gaining research and lab management experience, and the ability tocoordinate and supervise others effectively are the most critical requirementsof the position. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and organized, andstrong communication skills are a must. This position requires three years ofprevious research experience, a Ph.D degree in immunology, neuroscience, orother related fields.
