DESCRIPTIONThe primary duties of this position are to perform independent scientific research leading to publication in leading scientific journals, including experimental design, carrying out experiments in muscle biology, cell biology and genetics, and preparing manuscripts on the observed results. Demonstrated experience in successfully carrying out independent research in muscle biology and cell biology, Drosophila genetics, microscopy imaging, molecular biology, and biochemistry is required. Secondary duties include overseeing equipment maintenance and provide work direction to rotation students and lab personnel from other labs.
QUALIFICATIONSExtensive demonstrated experience, skill and knowledge in successfully carrying out independent research in muscle biology, cell biology, imaging, molecular biology and biochemistry.
Ph.D. level theoretical and sophisticated practical experimental knowledge of muscle biology, cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry and endolysosomal pathway.
Detailed conceptual/theoretical and practical understanding of and ability to perform miniprep DNA isolation, large scale plasmid DNA isolation, recombinant DNA techniques, PCR, in vitro transcription, agarose gel electrophoresis, immunoprecipitations, Western & Northern blotting, protein purification, antibody generation, immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy, analysis of phenotypes by cell imaging.
Experience culturing Drosophila and mammalian cells.
Demonstrated experience writing manuscripts based on research projects, including excellent scientific writing & presentation development skills for presenting data to a formal audience.
Theoretical and sophisticated practical experimental knowledge of current literature in field of phosphoinositide biology, membrane homeostasis and cellular genetic techniques
Skill and knowledge to conduct research independently, requiring direction but not supervision by the principal investigator.
Proven ability to manage, train and provide work direction to other lab personnel and rotations students.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility with students, staff, faculty, and visitors of various cultures and backgrounds.
Demonstrated proficiency with computer programs for DNA & protein analyses, computer Image processing software like CellProfiler, ImageJ and Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator with a willingness and ability to update and increase skills and knowledge as needed.
Knowledge of and skill to purchase and maintain lab equipment and computers including microscopes and supplies for cell culture room.
Knowledge of lab safety requirements and procedures, hazardous materials disposal, and skill to train others in these procedures/requirements. Knowledge/understanding and at least some experience with Safety Data Sheets, hazard communication and Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Familiarity with a Chemical Hygiene Plan addressing safety precautions including appropriate clothing and shoes, safe handling of chemicals, use of protective items. Willingness and ability to keep safety training current and consistent with research involvement.
Skill to organize set up and maintain lab notebooks and accurate records.
Demonstrated skill to work collaboratively within a dynamic team environment.
Nights and weekends may be required based on the needs of the lab.

Annual Full Pay Range: $73,043 - $117,557 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $34.98 - $56.30
