Function/Duties of Position
This Research Assistant Staff Scientist position aims to apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, and carry out research project(s) aiming to delineate the role of fucosylation-regulated signal transduction governing cancer biology and tumor:stromal interactions.
Participate as a core resource in initiating and developing new projects related to fucosylation-regulated cancer and tumor stromal biology to generate preliminary data for grants and manuscripts. Train with Dr. Lau in specialized molecular/biochemical/cellular/mouse modeling techniques that are relevant to the laboratory focus on fucosylation and tumor:stromal interactions. Assist Dr. Lau with scientific business daily, to include
- planning, coordinating, and designing experiments with Dr. Lau on fucosylation and signaling
- compiling, writing, and submitting reports
- analyzing research data and presenting it for publication or at scientific meetings
- providing lab managerial efforts (including lab ordering and occasional key reagent preparation and lab maintenance coordination)
- maintaining records of research data
- training with the PI in grant writing, with the eventual goal of independent grant submissions
Help supervise, mentor, and monitor the training programs for graduate students and other laboratory staff.
Required Qualifications
Education & experience:
Doctoral degree in relevant field and 3 years of relevant post-doctoral work experience.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Possesses a significant or high command of a professional sphere of knowledge exceeding what is required in the Research Series. Performs research and shares management responsibilities consistent with the research program's goals. Contributes to science at a considerable level as determined by the discipline. May assist in developing new services or technologies and aid in grant application and publication development as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in one of the natural sciences or a related field, or a Medical degree.
Two years of postdoctoral experience and/or five years of related experience. Familiarity with proteomics approaches.
