Job Description

The Discovery Neuroscience In Vivo Pharmacology group in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated scientist to join a dynamic team supporting target identification, validation, and drug transport facilitation over brain barriers. The ideal candidate will also have people and project management experience and has experience making tangible contributions to the discovery pipeline.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design and implementation of in vivo testing of multispecific biologics, small molecules, and siRNAs to support projects in the areas of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease
  • Serve as an in vivo representative in cross-functional teams with Discovery Biotherapeutics, DMPK, and Development Sciences colleagues, providing project updates, analysis, and strategic advice
  • Collaborate with colleagues at various AbbVie and external sites
  • Serve as the project lead responsible for coordinating activities and transitions from Hit Generation through Candidate Nomination
  • Identify and solve technical problems independently, implement new assays and workflows, conceive and implement innovative research ideas
  • Supervise junior scientists providing scientific and technical leadership in the design and execution of in vivo and ex vivo efficacy assessments, and be accountable for the effective performance of the team
  • Ensure consistency and quality of technical reports
  • Present original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS or equivalent education and extensive, Typically, 14+ years of experience; MS or equivalent education with typically 12+ years of experience; PhD with typically 6+ years of experience in area or scientific area of discipline.
  • Background in receptor and / or transporter biology
  • Background in brain barriers biology
  • Proven track record of working in multidisciplinary in vivo pharmacology teams
  • Experience with in vivo models of neurodegeneration, particularly with models of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease
  • Proven track record in characterizing complex biotherapeutics in vivo (biologics, small molecules, siRNA)
  • Experience managing direct reports, including providing performance evaluations and development opportunities
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environment
  • Candidate must be a goal-oriented team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong "can-do" attitude

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior project and team leadership in the pharmaceutical / biotech industry
  • Experience in managing external collaborations
  • Experience with ex vivo readouts including immunohistochemistry and biochemistry (ELISA, WB)
  • Experience with image analysis
