Description
The Mission Solutions Business Area at Leidos seeks a junior-Level Software Engineer to support the creation of new software capabilities within a matrixed research and development organization. This position will be responsible for creating new concepts for IT and Computer Science applications and writing original code. This position requires foundational knowledge of computer science, application building, requirements collection, simulation, data analysis, test, and verification of software simulation or decision systems. A successful applicant will be able to write various coding languages (for example: Java, C++, Python, R, JavaScript, HTML), construct enterprise IT systems using web servers and databases (for example: JBoss, Tomcat, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Docker), and integrate commercial software into solutions.
A successful applicant will also need to be able to configure and deploy cloud services and features for software deployment, and have working experience with Agile SCRUM teams defining user stories, perform task estimation, and follow Agile methodologies to achieve specific research milestones.
This software development position serves as an individual contributor to perform activities to complete tasks receiving guidance from senior software engineers. The focus of this position is on the creation of new, novel, and imaginative approaches to solving difficult analytical problems within the government problem domain.
Required qualifications:
- Candidate must be able to obtain a TS/SCI, or a Top Secret clearance with a current SSBI, and be eligible to obtain a TS/SCI w/ poly level clearance
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, or relevant systems or science discipline and at least 2 year of experience or Masters degree and less than 2 years of work experience and has served as an intern in a technical role.
- 1-2 years experience with software development
- 1-2 years Java experience, building Angular based and html/jsp user interfaces, data storage back ends in json, sql, or no-sql databases. Experience building simulation gameboards and scenario-design tools
- 1 years experience delivering tools or solutions to end users, guiding them through adaptation, and working through emerging requirements.
- 1 years experience with detailed Agent-Based simulations, formatting input or post-processing output.
- Experience using MASON simulation library
- Ability to conceive of, prototype, and present new analytic tools that deal with qualitative and user survey collected data as well as geospatial, numeric, and scientific data and programming
- Capability to execute Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) scripting, build custom scripts, generate docker containers, and collect data within both a Windows and a Linux/Unix environment
- Ability to work closely with peers and users to design, build, prototype, and deploy software systems within highly managed government environments
- Experience documenting software systems using Word, PowerPoint, or in-line help pop-up hints
- Experience explaining or teaching software systems in a meeting or conference setting
- Ability to work individually, as well as within a larger team construct
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and customer relation skills
- Highly detailed oriented
- Adept at working in a fast-paced environments
- Ability to resolve complex, unclear problems and issues with research and nontraditional solutions
- Expert in creating briefs and documents using Microsoft office
Desired Technical Qualifications:
- Preferably a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, or relevant systems or science discipline
- Experience with Machine Learning, LLMs, and AI
- Working knowledge of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Research & Development Directorate
- Experience working with Combatant Commands
- Ability to work closely with users to design, build, prototype, and deploy software systems within highly managed government environments
- Java experience (1+ years), building Angular based and html/jsp user interfaces, data storage back ends in json, sql, or no-sql databases. Experience building simulation gameboards and scenario-design tools would be especially valuable.
- Ability to design and build software systems from scratch
- Experience to documenting software systems using Word, PowerPoint, or in-line help pop-up hints. Experience explaining or teaching software systems in a meeting or conference setting.
- Ability to work individually, as well as within a larger team construct
