Position Information

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to support and help lead research focused on the role of nutrition in regulating muscle growth. The technician will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Postdoctoral Fellows, and technical staff to investigate how premature birth and dietary interventions affect protein synthesis, intracellular signaling pathways, and metabolism.

Responsibilities:

Animal Research and Care

• Conducts animal research studies using neonatal pig models.

• Performs surgical procedures, animal husbandry, clinical care, and specimen collection.

Laboratory Testing and Research Procedures

• Analyzes biological specimens using biochemical, cellular, and molecular methods to evaluate protein synthesis, nutrient signaling, and cell growth.

• Performs cellular and molecular assays including:

• Western immunoblotting, Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), Real-Time Quantitative Reverse Transcription PCR (RT-qPCR)

Analyzing Biological Samples

• Conducts biochemical assays using:
• Colorimetric methods, Fluorometric techniques, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)

Data Management and Documentation

• Documents all experimental procedures accurately.

• Analyzes, interprets, and summarizes experimental data.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

• Assists in the development and implementation of SOPs to enhance laboratory consistency and compliance.

Additional Duties

• Performs other research-related or administrative tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree

• Related experience in laboratory and animal research

• Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.

• Ensure attention to detail. Able to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field

• Two years related experience in laboratory and animal research

Other Requirements:

• Ability to lift or move light, moderate, and heavy objects. Ability to exert light force.

• Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends as needed.
