Student Research Assistant, Sentinel Seahorses & Pipefish, Levell EDAP 2026

The goal of this project is to study the ecology, morphology, and reproduction of Sarasota Bay syngnathids (seahorses and pipefish) and to assess the health and composition of seagrass beds, as well as environmental stressors such as red tide. Other goals include general husbandry of research animals. Collect and process samples from year-round sampling efforts in Sarasota Bay, and run experimental projects related to stress. Learn animal husbandry and exercise care for research aquaria/animals. Develop methods for processing the samples based on established protocol, and complete training to conduct marine ecological surveys. Complete assignments and participate in group discussions; develop an independent project related to seagrass and syngnathids Students can receive course credit as an internship through the Office of Career and Engagement. Other duties as assigned Successfully completed coursework in Biology and/or other sciences Experience working with animals/lab samples and general organization skills
