Job Description
The Research Assistant position provides support for ongoing research efforts in the Nguyen lab. The individual hired for this position will be involved in helping set up and perform experiments as well as maintaining the day-to-day operations of the lab. This position includes numerous opportunities to work with an interdisciplinary group of collaborators across biochemistry, bioengineering, and medicine and for publication, which can provide a strong basis for future applications to advanced degree programs.
Duties and Responsibility:
Assist with experiments, including stereotaxic surgery, immunohistochemistry, imaging, electrophysiology, and behavioral pharmacology
Analyze experimental results using computer-aided data analysis software
Maintains accurate databases and experimental notebooks of results
Communicates results in a timely fashion
Oversee mouse colony maintenance and husbandry
Prepare buffers and reagents
Oversee general laboratory operation, maintenance, and inventory
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, chemistry, bioengineering, or a related field of study from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary
At least one year of laboratory experience is strongly preferred
Previous scientific work with rodents is strongly preferred
Basic computer programming skills are strongly preferred, with a preference for python and MATLAB based coding knowledge
Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of lab members is necessary
Attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision is necessary
Self-motivation with a strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability is necessary
